A 35yo CI isn't getting into my nosing glas every month - really fruity and good on the nose, less fruity on the palate but more peaty and smoky towards the finish - overall very good

A good Caol ila. Brilliant cask pick. Colour: Pale hay Nose: Sharp citrus notes, chalk, sea weed, brine, linseed oul, walnut, smoke, sharp smoke, bacon, green fruits, sage, thyme, leafy tobacco & rhubarb. Wet pebbles, sweet hay & pine nuts. More like Laphroaig with iodine, tincture & plasticine. Palate: A bit of stinging white pepper, rhubarb & peat. Tonnes of salt, green lime, rhubarb, smoke, seaweed, fennel, thyme & wet sand. Finish: Medicinal peat, more of tincture, green fruits, leafy tobacco, minerals and lime. Medium finish. Not as grand for a 35yo. More Laphroaig than Caol ila. A clean profile. Unmuddled. Pristine, Aged. Crisp. Good. A winner.

Fruity peat, somewhat reminiscent of Cao Lina's 82 flavor, with star fruit, wampee, and a smoky note that's quite good. It also has cream, osmanthus, and a full body despite its low alcohol content. Other notes include lisianthus and chrysanthemum tea.

This is just olive oil, and citrus fruits, coastal vibes and pure class. Just beautiful.

T: Softer than expected, but when I think back to the bottles of official 25 I’ve enjoyed in the past [WLP188 / WLP290], I find this is even more enchanting. F: Refined sweet malt with [just] smoke at the tail; the balance exquisite. C: I had this down as best dram of the week on first sniff. For lighter wallets [rrp £495], there’s a younger, more affordable 19yo [up next] which some say is even better, but I stand firm.

It's pretty good, with a hint of aged liquor flavor, but the body feels structureless and I can't quite feel the 90.

You don't need to look for 35 years in it; it's good because it's good. Very pleasant and fruity, but this isn't a typical Caol Ila profile; it's closer to a classic 25-year-old. The alcohol content is very pleasant. It's a shame I don't have a whole bottle of this wonderful whisky.

The peat is quite powerful considering the age of the spirit, the first surprise. It's medicinal, like fuel oil and kerosene, with a beautiful balance of coastal, cliff, and quartz notes, ethereal iodine; there's still a tremendous amount of character, the second surprise. A hint of citrus, a very light touch of vanilla, gravel—the cask seems to have left very few marks, the third surprise. On the palate, it's the opposite: thick honey, pulpy fruit, with a touch of the exotic—banana, pineapple, white peaches, mirabelle plums, and ripe yellow plums. The peat is barely detectable, the spices very discreet; it's incredible. The finish is enormous, endless: candied lemon, sea spray, Breton biscuits, olive oil, crème brûlée, a drop of tar, mille-feuille.
