Never had such a well matured Deanston, and it comes from a refill hoggie! So an ideal opportunity to see what time does to this spirit… And it resulted in a beautiful dram, which is no immediate flavour bomb but offers a layered goodness. As others pointed out before me it is a bit similar to Clynelish because of the waxy elements. In my experience however, a bit of waxiness is not entirely unique in well matured malts on more inactive casks.

| Нос | 88 | Starts a bit shy but slowly opens up: wild peaches, fresh flowers,that lovely dusty scent of a dunnage warehouse, sun flower oil and candle wax. Then a deeper sweetness follows with vanilla, honey and baked banana. |

sipped from the balcony of a hotel in dublin at night time. the bottle was provided compliments of the hotel after they broke the bottle of the wu dram clan 17-year-old deanston that I had a hand in designing the label design for. a worthy replacement I suppose. whoever is selecting casks for decadent drams clearly knows a thing or two.
It's very much old school with a waxy style not seen often outside of Clynelish.
Waxy, malty, oily and a few lemons. A very enjoyable whisky with a terrific palate. Deanston as it‘s best!

Nose: Slightly waxy, fresh apples, honey, slightly reminiscent of Clynelish, but with a distinct alcoholic note. Still nice. Palate: Wow, the palate begins gently with a lovely waxiness, oily and slightly grainy. It even becomes a bit mineral towards the end. Green apples again. Not a fruit bomb, but a sweet, waxy, and slightly spicy affair. Finish: Medium-long, again waxy, sweet, and somewhat fruity with light oak. A lovely dram!

A wonderful whisky, balanced, creamy, delicate on the tongue and palate, fruity with plenty of sweetness in the form of honey, cheesecake, and cake. It's certainly drinkable.

Nose: waxy sea salt, vanilla, pepper, yellow fruits, pineapple, peaches, tea like tannins Mouth: oily, peaches, mellow, seasalt, floral, oak spice, minerality Finish: mid oak spice, salty, stewed peaches,
90 on the tongue, but sadly gets quite oaky in the finish. A really good aged Deanston, but even if I've paid a comparable sum of money for similarly aged Ben Nevis with a similar score, I'd hesitate to pay the 350€ for this one because of that dry tail.

The textbook definition of a bourbon-cask whisky. What stands out most is a striking bitterness—less like raw artichoke, and much closer to the herbal, savory character of Cynar.
