Old Orkney Relics 30-year-old DeDr

Some years ago, Decadent Drinks purchased the Old Orkney brand from Gordon & MacPhail. This brand was one that really inspired Angus when he started out doing indy bottling and held a very special place in his heart. In the 1940s and 1950s, there was a version of Old Orkney called 'Old Orkney Relics'; this was used to shelter blends created from the very final stocks of Stromness Distillery, which closed in the late 1920s. By the 1990s, Gordon & MacPhail were the custodians of the Old Orkney brand, and they also used it to bottle blended scotch created with a high proportion of Orkney malt in the recipe. This very special bottling of Old Orkney Relics is the final cask of G&M's original Old Orkney blend. It's a blend of whiskies all distilled in 1996, matured for 30 years in a refill sherry butt and bottled at natural strength. We're delighted that the story and history of this brand continue in this way, and we love this beautiful old blend that has resulted after all these years. It's full of heather honey, beeswax and dried fruits galore. Nose: Beeswax, camphor, mineral oil, dried fruits, sultana, shoe leather and cedar wood. Extremely easy, rich and satisfying old Blended Scotch! Palate: Soft in alcohol but extremely easy to quaff. Dominated by waxy hessian notes, heather honey sweetness and easy dried and crystallised fruit qualities. Finish: Surprisingly long, glowing with heather honey, herbal and waxy notes that all point in the direction of Orkney...!
