Not the beast it once was, but still a big-flavoured, well-textured single malt with an above average complexity.

The nose is immediately fruity and juicy, with very ripe yellow plums, abundant honey, and pronounced waxy notes. Soft brioche, banana, pineapple, royal jelly, caramelized onions, sugar porridge, vanilla cream. On the palate, it's quite smooth, but very oily, citrusy, with lemons of different colors, kumquat, peanut butter, shortbread cookies, and rather sparse spices. A lovely finish, which lifts slightly, but remains fruity, this time with candied fruit like mirabelle plums, apricots, quince, shortbread cookies, and subtle cereal notes. A surprising product, quite unlike the distillery's usual style. It's not just the Bourbon influence; I've had Mortlach aged in Bourbon casks before, and it wasn't like this. | Нос | 94 | A lovely warm breeze of the approaching summer, freshly harvested hay, whatever it is, straw-yellow like the glass, bright and fragrant, the nostrils delight in the aromas, fragrant vanilla pods, crème brûlée, vanilla custard fresh from the oven, candyfloss, baked apples, apricot cake yes, same oven, peach tart, apple sauce, light cinnamon notes, a hint of clove, a touch of nutmeg and allspice, freshly grated lemon or orange zest (?), quince jam, toffee and cream sweets. |

Life-affirming yet slightly melancholic, the lightness of being, a touch of ginger spice for the not-so-light side of existence. |

I like that it is not overly too sweet nor vanilla forward. Definitely good to great, but would I recognize that this is a Mortlach? I do not think so. Considering the outrageous price, this is not a candidate for a purchase for me...
