This is Whiskyland Chapter Twenty One: a luscious Longmorn 1996, matured for 28 years in a humble refill hogshead and bottled at natural cask strength. Please be aware, this whisky contains excessive flavours of the Longmorn Fruit (Longmornium Fruiticus Whiskylandium). Certain people can be allergic to this fruit, even in tiny doses. This includes, but is not limited to, distillery owners, influencers, yeast suppliers, writers, bloggers, opinion havers, pontificators, virtue signallers and preening twits. If this includes you, then, according to the Whiskyland health board, it may be prudent to taste this whisky with care - you should definitely still buy a couple of bottles though!

Longmorn Tasting Nose Pears, green grass, barley, hay, some honey. Closed when approached neat on first pour. Palate Spiced, cinnamon doused pear skins, red apple skins, underpowered fruit salad with sugar and cinnamon, malty, gristy, barley Finish More of the same from the palate with a drying and oaky character Water and time this whisky a favour. It needs it, but also worth noting Longmorn is not a favourite of mine. Compared to Longmorn G&M 12 yr old (1980’s) WB117409 Nose Honey, fresh flowers, minty, herbal, anise Palate Gentle, honeyed, malty Finish Minty, anise, oaky for its age This is a rather good, but relatively simple example and perhaps Longmorn is not my thing. 86 Longmorn SMWS 7.21 33yrs (1968) WB33368 Nose Malty, honeyed, spices, cinnamon, yellow fruits, hit of salt, high alcohol is felt Palate A real ex-bourbon bomb, honeys, waxes, cinnamon, toffee apples, cinnamon doused fruits Finish Dry, bitter, mineral, chalky With water More fruits on the nose, and more oakiness on the palate. Reminds me of the earlier batches of Balvenie TUN 1401. Ok, I like this one, it’s a real beast. 90 Longmorn SMWS 7.142 30 yrs (1985) WB112361 Nose More civil on the nose than the 1968 SMWS but definitely the same Distillery DNA, yellow and orange fruits, flowers again, honeys, malty Palate Lovely oakiness, honeys and rich yellow fruits really shine though on this, absolutely love the texture and body of this waxy malt. Just so much more accessible fruit on this one with the added maturity provided by the oak which imparts a lovely anise flavour. Finish Oaky, fruit and wonderful sweetness all dance in harmony. Ok - I get it now, this is far and away the nest Longmorn I have experienced. I really rate this and think it’s significantly better than the others I have compared it too. 92
