Blair Athol 2013 BR

This is a deep, autumnal dram. Stewed plums and blackcurrants greet you on the nose, lifted by a whisper of cedar, damp earth and the rich, vinous warmth of Pomerol oak. The palate is plush and velvety, with dark cherries, red liquorice and a dusting of cocoa, all wrapped in a gentle spice. A subtle herbal note lingers beneath, atop dried tobacco, the cask lending supple tannins and a lingering echo of dark fruit compote. The finish is long and warming, fading into black tea and oak char. This is a confident and brooding Blair Athol, best enjoyed on a quiet evening, rain tapping against the window, a good book in hand. It is unhurried, contemplative, and deeply rewarding.
