This is yet another winner from our friends on Islay. Ardbeg Dolce cleverly interweaves sweet, yet deliciously insistent, peatiness with a walnut and dried fruit character from having spent time in ex-Marsala casks. Sultanas, hints of camphor and the singed edges of crème brûlée give way to a luscious palate with candied fruits in syrup, plummy tobacco oil and figs. As is so often the case at this distillery, the smoky finish is long, and persistent, without even hinting at overstaying its welcome.Rob Whitehead, Spirits Buyer, Berry Bros. & Rudd
