Like the first chords of a favourite song, the nose of this old Tobermory immediately engenders comfort and warmth in my whisky-loving heart. Plump dried fruits and Oloroso Sherry spices are assembled, all temptingly spread upon oaken desks in ancient libraries. Hints of bittersweet charred apricot, singed timber and blueberry compote present themselves with time. This third instalment in a series exploring extended sherry-cask maturation shows why whiskies of this age are so highly prized. Sometimes a musical act reaches their peak with their third album.
