It was distilled in 1945, as the world emerged from war and a new era dawned. On the nose, bright citrus oils reminiscent of orange zest and preserved lemon lift gently from a foundation of soft, curling woodsmoke. Beneath, layers of antique oak and sun-warmed dates reflect great age, while rich sultanas and a hint of spice round out the profile. The palate is deep and opulent: baked vanilla custard, crystallised ginger meld with bitter Seville marmalade, and sticky treacle weaves through dense fruitcake and dried figs.
