В аромате отмечают влияние хереса — сухофрукты, красные ягоды, корицу и пряности вместе с мёдом, карамелью, ванилью и характерными для Highland Park вереском и цитрусами, поверх которых стелется деликатный, порой едва уловимый торфяной дым; часть дегустаторов ловит абрикос, персик, зелёный виноград, печенье и кофе с молоком. Вкус маслянистый и довольно полный, суховатый в начале, с дубом, корицей и мускатным орехом, к которым добавляются мёд, светлые фрукты и возвращающийся дым; напиток заметно раскрывается на воздухе и требует времени в бокале. Хвалят баланс, округлость и «возврат к прежнему стилю» Highland Park, солёно-медовую пряность и хорошую перекличку аромата и вкуса.
Главная и почти единодушная претензия — короткое, слабоватое послевкусие (дуб, танины, пепел, местами горчинка), не дотягивающее до пятнадцатилетней выдержки, а также заниженная крепость 44 % и завышенная цена, которую многие считают справедливой на уровне 40–60 €. Опытные ревьюеры сдержаннее: ставят в основном 82–88, отмечая сбалансированность при отсутствии яркости, спорят о цене и порой не находят ожидаемой хересности в аромате; менее опытные оценки чуть разбросаннее (от 75 до 87), с отдельным резким провалом за плоский хересно-ванильный профиль. В целом оценки плотно сгруппированы около 84–86, расхождения касаются не качества напитка, а его соответствия заявленному возрасту и цене.

Tasted 11/25 ZH, Volkshaus. Also tried the Viking bottle. It doesn't come close to the 18-year-old, but it certainly won't hurt.

This'll keep you entertained for an entire bottle, no problem.
A nice HP! Heather honey nose with light smoke, honey, and grassiness. Palate is smooth and deep, with wisps of smoked honey, pepper, and fruit. Long finish with pepper, light smoke, honey, and fruit.
Quite easy drinkable but the butterscotch notes are not really to my liking

A quite tasty Highland Park with the typical heather / heather honey aroma. Served with lemon biscuit, crème brûlée and roasted pineapple. You can also feel the oak wood in the nose and finish. The official tasting notes fit quite well. It offers some nice flavor nuances that go well together perfectly, but it's not super complex. Alcohol is well integrated, in the nose it makes itself felt as menthol. The finish is in my opinion medium long. Good middle class. The bottle would be worth a maximum of 55 EUR to me. From €60 upwards there are definitely better/more interesting malts on the market. Therefore value for money: 85 points
Due to the bad rating (let's be honest: there are realistically only 82 to 94 points) this whisky put me off for a long time and I didn't have it in my glass. But when I had it in the glass, I was very pleasantly surprised: The proximity to the Highland Park 30, which is a little more settled but also gentler, as well as 10 to 15 year old cask strength single cask bottlings (mostly over 60%) from HP, is unmistakable. Compared to some cask strength bottlings, this malt is very harmonious, with a great smell, mouthfeel and taste. Even with the second and third tasting, the whisky was able to convince me all round. For me, the whisky is definitely 90-91 points. I'm so glad I finally tried it! It shows once again how little you can rely on the reviews of others. Especially when many people give their subjective "appreciation" driven by profit or a passion for collecting. The one or other comment here on Whiskybase also shows clear frustrations in the direction of pricing. Why actually? A successful Highland Park with 15 years and a special (ceramic?) bottle for well under 100 euros?! A bargain compared to some Macallan, Bimber, Chichibu or hyped Bowmore Aston Martin, Daftmill, Springbank or Yamazaki bottlings, which unfortunately are only bought by many to resell them directly on eBay for expensive - including 95 rating points for free. The actual taste doesn't matter...

Nose, dried plums, BBQ sauce, grilled pork neck, ribs in honey, mulled wine, and cherry jam. Taste, pleasantly perceptible light smoke, cardboard, bitter almonds, caramel and dark chocolate, salted peanuts. Finish, not too long, woody, watery, no noticeable alcohol.
The whisky takes time to develop its aroma. The 15-year-old from the Orkney Distillery Highland Park is nicknamed 'Viking Heart'. Gordon Motion, the master whisky maker at the traditional distillery, chose single malts from three types of cask: first-filled sherry casks made from European and American oak for dry, spicy and sweet aromas. In addition, there were again filled barrels, which let the character of the malt with fruits and heather peat shine through. In an attractive porcelain bottle.
I am delighted with this 15-ki. I was expecting something less bright and interesting. The taste sags a little compared to the aroma, but it's not so scary. And what is important is the roll call of notes of taste and aroma among themselves! I would turn the saturation adjustment knob to the maximum, for some reason I wanted to make this profile brighter. Be careful with the air - the aroma begins to fade. An Initial hit of heather peat, spices, dark brown sugar, cinnamon , bitter tannins, cigar smoke, dark toffee and burnt orange. A rich dark chocolate and coffee remains in the finish. The bitter notes dominate initially and it’s quite dry, for me it could be more balanced with sweeter notes. More complex as to be expected than the 12 yo. With a few drops of water and time in glass it improve and is better suited to my tastes.

Fruitier and more citrus than 10yo and 12yo. The smoke note is more subtle in the background. However, the distillery character disappears a bit, I wouldn't have put it blindly on the Orkneys. Unfortunately, with the current RRP in the ceramic bottle, it is not a replacement candidate. A few thalers less and I would also like to have it in the standard HP bottle and I would buy another bottle.

not bad, but nothing really worth mentioning.. the finish is best, with more personality, quite dry and smokier than usual for an HP.. the sherry seems over-imposed and fake.. thin and thank god this was a sample!

The honey-sweet / fruity aromas run from the nose to the taste. The typical heather component, especially in the smell, that I always have at HP, is also beautifully present here. The seasoned sherry barrels seem to have only seen sherry briefly or it was a sherry variant that is less dark-fruity and more light-fruity. A really nice, harmonious bottling from the Viking forge. But I don't see the currently advertised price of around € 90 - this also doesn't make up for the chic bottle.

A slightly spicy note smoldering in the background, reminiscent of cinnamon or freshly grated pepper. I can't find any typical sherry notes like dark fruits, nuts or even raisins or leather. After many disappointing releases, for me personally, I was really positively surprised by this one. It has the typical Highland Park kind of peat, lavender and some dark and lighter fruit. For me, sufficient depth, getting to a proper age and probably comes from some decent wood. Will test/taste again, but my first dram comes close to the 18, which I find best HP value for money.

The heart of the Vikings in a fancy beige ceramic bowl? It looks more like a bottle for an afternoon liqueur - and nothing was further from the Orcadian Vikings than an afternoon liqueur! Ok, bad mood aside: This is Highland Park with a decent age and a questionable strength of 44% ABV. for which no Viking would have lost his heart. Uncolored with beautiful gold but probably cool filtered. And a price of 90 € in autumn 2021, at which the Viking begins to maraud... glen-efze.de

Viking Heart When we were guided through the shop after the tour at Highland Park, my eye fell on this ceramic bottle from Highland Park. I took it home because it was Dearly Beloved's favorite of the tasting. Time to thoroughly test it myself. Ah... the sherry casks have really done their job. In addition to caramel and honey, I get a nice touch of cereal and café latté. The attention is mainly attracted by apricots, peach and green grapes. Another hint of milk chocolate with hazelnuts and all wrapped in a soft blanket of smoke. Very good! The body could have been just a little, but in terms of taste this is certainly good. Again apricots and peach, although the candied version this time. The peat smoke returns and becomes relatively large, while pepper and other wood spices make your mouth completely warm. Caramel and coffee are again present. The finish is medium length on more of the same, but with a soft touch of ashes like from a drying campfire on the deathbed. This reminds me much more of the HP releases of yesteryear. You pay around 115 EUR for this, which is honestly a bit much to my liking. But it is certainly tasty. And the bottle looks nice too.

Overall, I can say it's a very nice whisky. It offers many different notes, has a very smooth taste, and you can clearly feel that it was cold-filtered. If I could, I would have increased the alcohol content to 46%, so it would have been fuller-bodied, oilier, and had a longer finish. However, it's very enjoyable as it is. My only criticism is that the finish is a little short and lacking in depth, but I think that's insignificant because overall it's quite good.

give time to breathe; On the nose it seems quite ripe, but I wouldn't have given it 15 years blindly - especially since it was supposed to be a sherry maturation (?), so I miss the typical sherry aromas in my nose... Generally quite fruity on the nose. The taste actually has more sherry aromas. Good but not earth-shattering. What's disappointing is the almost non-existent finish with a few bitter moments and tannins and it's gone... Sorry Highland Park - your malt is good, but not worth around 90 euros. At 50-60 euros I would go along with it and understand it, but 90 euros is too expensive for this malt. Deduction in the B grade because of the price: [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get (second) bottle? Maybe...] -> but not for this price! If it's on sale somewhere at some point, I might think about it again; but currently the sample is enough for me. For a few euros more you can currently (10/2021) get the 18, and there is more sherry influence. Improved in the post-test; he was able to draw more air, which is very good for him. Now (very) good 86 points close to next level to 87/88 points.
