The twin limiting factors of the distillery’s comparatively small size and its late-20th-century propensity to be mothballed for years on end means that Ardbeg of this age is highly scarce. Trademark sooty smoke abounds alongside well-judged oak. Wood notes support the immensely characterful spirit, especially on the supremely lengthy finish.
