Very interesting at first, Matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels (American Oak, or Quercus Alba) and no sherry casks (and certified Kosher). It’s a softer, gentler version of Glenrothes. The bourbon oak influence is very evident, showing creamy vanilla and coconut, with additional fruit (orange creamsicle, pineapple, black raspberry, blueberry and gooseberry). Soft, creamy vanilla finish. A pleasant, easy-going, seamless dram—and perhaps the most approachable Glenrothes whisky. Advanced Malt Advocate magazine rating: 84
The Glenrothes normal wood policy uses a combination of Spanish and American oak, seasoned with sherry, bourbon and malt Scotch. However, The Glenrothes Alba Reserve has been exclusively matured in American oak refill bourbon casks, but still exemplifies the distillery core flavours - juicy citrus, creamy vanilla, ripe fruits and complex spices.

Atypical for ''Glenrothes'' is the absolutely missing sherry cask influence, which is by no means disturbing, since the sulfuriness that is often found is also not present. Tasty, ideal for summer weather, but also so smooth that, despite its complexity, it runs the risk of hardly being noticed.

Unlike many Glenrothes bottlings, this expression has been matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, with no European oak component. Due to the absence of casks which formerly contained Sherry, Alba Reserve has Kosher certification, making it ideal for those of a strict Jewish persuasion. This is a multi-vintage expression, lacking an age statement.
A surprising release from Glenrothes - this is comprised entirely of ex-Bourbon whiskies (matured in Bourbon casks). The name Alba makes reference to Quercus Alba, the Latin name for American Oak.
