Насыщенный хересно-фруктовый профиль без тропической сладости старших выпусков, с кремовой текстурой и рождественскими пряностями. Опытные ставят высоко и хвалят интенсивность; расхождения касаются в основном завышенной цены.

Аромат плотный и щедрый, раскрывается сразу: изюм, сушёный инжир, спелый виноград, чёрная смородина и вишня, поверх которых ложатся пряности перегонного куба — кардамон, гвоздика, корица, мускат — уводящие в сторону рождественской выпечки; позже добавляются марципан, нуга, взбитые сливки, а у части дегустаторов — ваниль, карамель, ирис, яблоки, груши и цитрус. Вкус кремовый и полнотелый, соединяющий сушёные фрукты (абрикос, инжир, изюм) с нарастающими пряностями, орехами, какао и чёрным перцем; послевкусие длинное, кремовое, сладковатое, с гвоздикой, шоколадом и лёгким угольно-земляным оттенком. Хвалят интенсивность, полноту тела, гармонию фруктов и пряностей и долгое послевкусие; отсутствие тропических фруктов относят к использованию сливочного хереса и портвейновых бочек и подают как отличие от 15- и 21-летних. Опытные ревьюеры единодушно высоки (87–90) и подчёркивают цельность и мощь напитка как достойного продолжения линейки; расхождения между ними и остальными невелики и лежат не в профиле, а в оценке уместности выпуска рядом с 21-летним и особенно в критике завышенной цены (140–180 евро при 46% и без указания natural color/non-chill filtered). Единственная заметно низкая оценка (83) описывает жидковатый аромат и более выраженную, чем у других, хересную сухость; в целом же оценки тесно сгруппированы в диапазоне 86–90, что говорит о высокой согласованности.

Midleton has even managed to pull an 18yo out of its sleeve as an extension of the standard range. Given that the Iberian Series was expanded at the same time, you really can't complain about a lack of choice. Good! I really liked my first dram of the 18yo in The Dear's Head in Belfast. The second dram in a pub in Donegal Town was just as good, so buying a bottle (in Germany, the prices in Ireland are ridiculous) was no longer worth considering. Positioned between the Redbreast 15 and the Redbreast 21, for me it tends more towards the older brother. Unlike the latter (and also unlike newer editions of the 15yo, which sometimes also seem surprisingly tropical and fruity), the 18yo does not score points with tropical fruits - which is most likely due to the use of cream sherry and port casks - but it is convincing across the board with its intense nose, full body and long finish. This may also be due to the use of the aforementioned casks, because Redbreast and cream sherry/port is a combination that has never performed badly.

Нос91A nose that immediately reveals all the aromas you would expect from an 18yo Redbreast: raisins, dried figs, sweet ripe grapes, blackberries and blackcurrants, garnished with a very appealing mix of pot still spices that here and there take the aroma a little in the direction of Christmas stollen: cardamom, allspice, cinnamon, ground cloves, grated nutmeg. A very intense aroma picture, you don't have to make much effort or look for it, the individual aromas practically fly towards you. Black cherries, marzipan bread, warm nougat cream and the scent of freshly whipped cream are added later.
Вкус90Very creamy onset, it feels soft on the tongue without actually being soft, because just like on the nose, it is not shy on the palate and shows with a full body where it is going. Nougat and marzipan, dried fruits (apricots, figs, raisins). The pot still spices give the fruit notes all the space at first, but over time come more and more to the fore and reveal themselves as clove powder, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice and turmeric. A little freshly grated ginger adds a fresh, tart note, but all in all the stage belongs to the fruits and spices.
Финиш90A long finish, still creamy. The fruit aromas and spices, which still complement each other perfectly, remain intact until the end, until at some point - which takes a pleasingly long time here - only a hint of them remains on the tongue.

A lovely bottle. Fewer tropical fruits than the 21-year-old, but the difference to the 18-year-old is clearly noticeable. Absolutely delicious. Tasted at the Mutton Lane Inn (Cork). Approx. 5cl for €29

It's very fruity, and the fruits are very varied: cherry, raspberry, but also mirabelle plums, dates, and dried bananas. There's a lovely creaminess, but also a hint of honey, iodine, walnut cake, dark chocolate, damp earth, and grass. On the palate, it's velvety, woody, elegant, with notes of honey and cake filling, crushed figs, and grapes of all colors. Spices are almost nonexistent. The finish is long and well-restrained, with a hint of charcoal and earth, cinnamon, saffron, waxed and then varnished wood, molasses, mocha, and royal jelly. Redbreast is a triple-distilled single pot still Irish whiskey from the Midleton Distillery in Cork. Bottled at the respectable age of 18 years, it will cost between €140 and €180 in German stores in early 2025. That's a hefty price for a 46% ABV whiskey that doesn't state "non-chill filtered" or "natural color." glen-efze.de

I was skeptical whether the 18 was interesting (=relevant) when there was already a great 21 in the same price segment (will it stay that way?). Both bottlings are quite different, so it makes sense 86-90 – Wow, really good one, needs a bottle

Head to head with Redbreast Cuatro Barriles WB250772 - one point better, but in my opinion a bit too expensive Powerful and very well done, definitely picks me up as a Redbreast fan

Sampled at an event. Thin nose. Quite easy going. Fresh fruits. Moderately dry Palate. Now the sherry is very apparent albeit to the fresh fruit than Christmas side. Quite a lot of bake spices.

Party! A new redbreast! I put the whiskey next to the Redbreast Tawny and the Redbreast 21 to compare it. The whiskey has a golden color with a light bronze glow. The whiskey stays in thick waves on the glass. Although I like it very much and score it almost the same as the 21 year old, I find the whiskey very expensive. With a retail price of €175, the price quality is completely out of proportion.
