В аромате преобладают ноты портвейна: абрикосовый джем, клубника и красные ягоды, тропические фрукты и кондитерская сладость, уравновешенные ореховостью, шоколадом, деревом и пряностью (перец, корица, анис). Вкус открывается фруктовой сладостью, которая сменяется перечной пряностью и суховатой дубовой горчинкой; шоколад, кофе, орех. Несколько дегустаторов отмечают, что вкус ощутимо генеричнее и суше носа и заметно выигрывает от капли воды. Послевкусие среднее или короткое, сухое, с горьковатыми и древесными отголосками, шоколадом, патокой; фруктовость уходит быстро.
Опытные ревьюеры оценивают виски ровно и умеренно высоко (85–88), хваля ароматность, зрелую хересно-портвейновую сладость и баланс аромата, но почти единодушно упрекают в завышенной цене (около 140 €) при разбавлении до 46 % и в том, что вкус и особенно короткое послевкусие не соответствуют выразительному носу. Остальные оценки держатся в том же узком коридоре (81–88), расхождений по существу мало: часть авторов находит напиток чрезмерно сладким и тяжёлым либо недостаточно фруктовым, смещённым в пряно-древесную сторону, но общая согласованность высокая — крепкий, но не выдающийся и переоценённый по цене образец.

Actually a nice port-aged whisky, if it weren't for the shockingly high price. I like Glencadam, I like port-aged whiskys, so I "gulped" the price. The short finish and the high price in relation to the bid prevent a better valuation.

The expression of spices is sufficient, and the alcohol suppression is better, but it is not my favorite style. It can still be considered if it is less than 110 euros.

A more obvious sense of alcohol. The main note is black berries that have been boiled very densely and are about to evaporate into jam. There is no sugar or honey added yet, but a lot of cinnamon, aniseed, fresh herbs and mint.

The alcohol taste is very weak. It doesn't taste as dense as the smell, more like diluted hawthorn and red date soup. There are also Arabic aromas, toasted dried berries and raw nuts, as well as a hint of tannin.

The finish is very dry, with a hint of bitterness, minerality, and finally a bit of smoke. The length and power are both weak.

It's not a very simple whisky, because it lacks a little more fruit and sweetness. But still not uninteresting. The focus here is more on the spicy tones and wood notes from the 17-year barrel aging.

At the beginning there are beautiful fruit notes, which are then replaced by peppery spice. Exciting transformation, but also slightly out of round at first. With the second dram one has quite made friends with it

The whisky was first stored for 12 years in 1st fill bourbon barrels and received a 5-year Ruby Port finish. Very appealing and flavorful. A bit too expensive for my taste though.

a good whisky, with a lovely profile and a great balance, making for a rich yet also delicate experience. The nose is delightful and wonderful, although perhaps the palate can’t completely live up to that. I’ll argue that it might be about a tenner too expensive

Apricot jam, followed by a wide array of sweetness. There’s pastry notes here like sugar coated pies, but also a sense of strawberry candy and confectionery sweetness. Add in some pink bubble gum, why don’t you. Sweet red fruits and tropical fruit notes. If olfactory sensations would have colours, this would likely be pink. Balancing things out, there’s a clear wood note adding depth. Truth be told, the nose has a spot on balance between sweetness, wood, depth and fruit.

At first the sweetness from the nose manifests itself, but in a far more generic manner. Just general, unidentifiable sweetness… A dry mouthfeel coming from a soft oaky note adding a hint of bitterness. I’m not exactly overwhelmed by this. Luckily, it opens up nicely with a bit of added water, lifting things up significantly. This is now far better, restoring the fruity notes along with some dark chocolate, roasted coffee and nuts.

Glencadam is still running a little under the radar, which is certainly also due to the fact that Angus Dundee, as an independent bottler, stands for bulk whiskys and not for exquisite single casks. But Glencadam is stepping out of the shadows and is present here with a 17 year old port pipe finish in the upper price segment of around € 140. With a whisky that is 46% vol. has been diluted!
