В аромате доминируют херес и торфяной дым: копчёная клубника и красная смородина, сливовый джем, бекон и жареное мясо, кожа, какао и табак, у части авторов — солёный морской бриз, йод и минеральная свежесть. Вкус плотный, кремовый и мощный, с чёрным перцем и жгучей остротой чили вплоть до тайского перца, на фоне сладких тёмных ягод, хересной сладости, шоколада и кофейной горчинки; послевкусие средней длины — пепельное, сухое, вяжущее, с дымом, ягодной сладостью, перцем и лакрицей. Хвалят за силу, насыщенность и хорошо встроенный спирт, за сочетание торфа и красных фруктов; критикуют перегруженную остроту, приторную ягодную сладость и заметную молодость. Мнения опытных расходятся сильнее, чем у остальных: часть ставит 87–88 и считает эту версию заметно выше обычного Sanaig на 46%, отмечая многогранность и отбор лучших бочек, тогда как другие снижают до 78–84, слыша лаковые ноты, пустоватое послевкусие и чрезмерный перец без добавленной ценности по сравнению с разбавленной версией. Основная масса оценок кучно держится на 86–88, так что общий консенсус — крепкий, добротный релиз; спор идёт лишь о том, мешает ли ему молодость и агрессивная пряность.

Recently the Batch Strength, now the Sanaig Cask Strength - Kilchoman has recognised that the core range needed a little more oomph beyond the single cask releases. But good intentions are not always good execution, and for me this is expressed in an exaggerated fruit sweetness combined with peppery spiciness, which suggests a relatively young brand. Youthfulness is usually not a big obstacle for Kilchoman, but here (for me) it is. In any case, I don't need a whole bottle of this.
Нос 84 Very clearly sherry-heavy nose, unmistakable peat smoke note. Smoked strawberries, red currants, spiced plum jam, initially with a good portion of alcohol, but disappears after a while. Smoked ham, warm corrugated iron roof, heather, damp hay with a tendency towards a cowshed aroma.
Вкус 83 Very strong, slightly spicy start. Peppery, ham-like. Plums, blackberries, sugared red currants, sweet grapes. Ashy peat smoke with a hint of citrus water, which only flashes briefly, however, as the sugary-sweet berries extend their elbows. The peppery feeling on the palate does not disappear, and now even hot paprika and chili flakes are added instead. This, together with the sweet fruit notes, is quite a demanding affair. Overall, it seems a bit restless.
Финиш 83 Due to the peat smoke, the finish is medium long, ashy, slightly dry, very sweet, with a slight hint of tin. The berries still provide a very strong fruity sweetness, with pepper and chili on the lips.

Very good and solid whisky. Powerful, and a nice combination of peat and red fruits, very pleasant for sure.
Нос 88 Full scent, peat- and woodsmoke, sweet smoke especially. Roasted meat, bacon, some ash.
Вкус 87 Powerful, black pepper. Sweet smoke, with some blueberries now, and again some roasted meat, bacon.
Финиш 88 Still quite some power, pepper. Powerful smoke and red fruits, pretty long finish with berries, woodsmoke, bacon.

I've always preferred the regular Sanaig bottlings over the Loch Grom. They're just better balanced and more fitting to my palate. So a cask strength version of this stuff sounds promising. Barbecue smoke, glazed ham, sweet sherry, plum, blackberries, raisins, chocolate, coffee notes, nutty, toffee, a bit of leather polish. Very well rounded. A creamy and thick mouthfeel, meaty, sweet fruity sherry notes, berries, cocoa and coffee bitterness, earthy peat, nutty, a nice spiciness of ginger, nutmeg and charcoal bitters. Thick syrupy notes in the long lingering finish with sweet liquorice, cocoa bitters, spicy pepper and charred oak.

Very peppery, you can really feel the youth on the palate. So I don't really understand the high scores in the first reviews here. And I see no added value of this % monster compared to the Sanaig with 46%.

Вкус 83 Oily at first on the palate, then the Thai chilli kicks in. Whoa. You won't find much fruity sweetness or even oiliness here.
Финиш 84 The finish is then quickly tamed again.

Intense, deep, heady sherry. Raspberry crumble, cinnamon. Thick, hazy, brutal smoke. Scraping coal, soot, fuel oil. Iodine note, the sea air. Some nuts, redcurrant juice. Mineral freshness, limestone, quartz. Blueberries, sloshing mud, half-flooded peat bog. On the palate, more piles of peat, perennial spices, cumin, cloves, baked apples, cranberry jam. Very powerful finish, coal, tar, stalactites, salt crystals, dark chocolate, unrefined coffee. Acrid humidity, drops of caramel, a hint of vegetation, elderflower. Hazelnut. To me, this is a good whisky. The nose is my least favourite part, as it seems too modern and jammy. In the mouth, the dark side comes to the fore, which - for me - belongs to Sanaig.
Нос 85 Well, quite much on wood smoke, like a lapsang tea. Plain oak, blueberry jam, maybe a tad of salinity and moss. Black Forest cake. It's not bad, but more modern than earlier versions and a tad more boring.
Вкус 87 A bit smokier now, sootier too, even a tad saline and mossy. That's better. Salted almond, brine, moss and dried anchovies. It's also a tad earthy, on fennel seed, some sweetness of honey and the occasional date and prune, and dark chocolate. Oh yes, also some tree bark.
Финиш 87 It leaves you in a dark spot. More tree bark, salty and ashy smoke, bacon, moss, fennel seed, liquorice root. Then chocolate, dried cherry, date, honey.

Personally, I am a bit disappointed with this version of Cask Strength. The version diluted in the distillery was very friendly and tasty for me. Here there is a lot of burning bitterness, sharp notes, but too little fruitiness. While it looks nice in the aroma, in other aspects of tasting it is at best correct. I was wondering whether to buy a bottle.... I already know the answer... UNFORTUNATELY NO.

A really nice bottling - smoky, maritime, sweet, full, creamy and with well-integrated alcohol. Furthermore, the range of aromas is also quite multifaceted. In the end, I am extremely positively surprised. There is a world of difference between this bottling and a (diluted) Sanaig that I had in my glass about 6 years ago...
Нос 87 Young but beautiful! With soft and slightly maritime smoky aromas. The alcohol is integrated in an exemplary manner. Distant fire, salty sea breeze, iodine, caramel, vanilla, soft citrus notes, damp ship planks, pickled plums, honey, BBQ sauce, tobacco, light leather, dates, tree bark, oak spice.
