Blair Athol sits just south of Pitlochry, nestled in Perthshire’s picturesque Vale of Atholl, often described as the “gateway to the Highlands.” Known for its rich, nutty, and malty character, Blair Athol is equally admired for the leafy ivy draping the distillery’s historic walls, changing dramatically in colour as the seasons unfold. Blair Athol’s malty heft melds beautifully with the Margaux cask, producing a dram that’s both luscious and complex. The nose opens with blackcurrant wine gums and soft, creamy sweetness reminiscent of milk bottle sweets. White chocolate and a whisper of orange zest add gentle brightness, while an undercurrent of roasted malt and cassis provides depth. The palate is sweet and unctuous, delivering velvety waves of dark fruit coulis, balanced by gentle herbal notes.
