N: An instant-like [88+] on opening, this got better and better as the months rolled on. Initially savoury-sweet grassy/biscuity, more than six months on and it’s truly sweet & sour. Add to the perfectly punchy vibrant oily briny aromas, notes of Garibaldi ‘Fly’ biscuits [see pic], thickly-painted flaking rusty old gates, old/spent car air fresheners, Swarfega, lemon balm, lemon-infused icing sugar, smoky lemon curd~yoghurt, dried banana skin, dried pineapple, cornflakes, talcum. vegetal-vanilla. Oh, and, you name it, they’ve smoked it. Can one smoke a car battery? Ask a silly question. I did do that once, connecting the terminals wrongly on an MX5 to start a VW Transporter. T: Initially remains on the sweeter side of savoury as it did when first opened with a [coconut slice] sweetness, grassy, smoky lemon curd [again], into sour lemon and vegetal [Garibaldi/buckwheat] biscuit, smoked dry squidgy fruits,… Six months on, it’s the decidedly driven spirit that propels things forward, all credit to the combo of [first & refill] casks and the overall authentic presentation. F: Decidedly more savoury and briny with a desirable bitterness and luscious [non-drying] ashiness with all number of earthier dirtier phenolic notes coming through after two or three textural bursts that envelop & envelop. Remaining vibrant, the abv of 50% – DL OMC strength – is ideal for just a little water management. A stoner’s dream finish, biscuity & briny liquid-ashy hot chocolate, natural vanilla, and a hint of bay leaf and clove at the death. C: Musically paired with Aphex Twin: ‘4’, I ponder how Octomore can compete against its ‘without fault’ sibling given such price point differentials. Also, Port Charlotte appears far more phenolic than most Octomore and perhaps it even is on the SPPM scale. Much like Ardnamurchan’s AD/ [WLP], we’ve an affordable/[available] core-range permashelf classic for around £46 and it’s a cracker.

This is a great example of Islay single malt whisky! Its peat smoke is remarkable. It has sea character with delicious orchard fruits and vanilla. For me it reveals in one week after opening a bottle. Also I found a huge hint of gouache smell on the nose, and it is really pleasant!

Port Charlotte is one of my favourite islay whiskies and i was quite happy that they released a new 10yo standard bottling. its a quality dram without a doubt but its not to my liking. first of all the nose is rather quiet, the peat is more restrained,the phenolic level rather low. but whats really putting me off, is that dominant winey note. i drank their latest releases octomore 10, laddie 10 v2 and the port charlotte v2. they were also a mix of wine, sherry and bourbon casks and it was a nice variety. but honestly i didnt expect them to go on mixing wine casks into their regualar bottlings. long story short: its a decent drink, with a almost great body and aöpowerful lengthy finish. peat is more prominent in mouth and finish as it is in the nose. also the wine note is not as powerful as it was in the nose. but the peat level seems low. its stats 40ppm but behaves more like 20 or so. its muted by thath rose wine notes i guess. I really wish that they would have stayed at bourbon and sherry or a mix of it in their standard bottlings and leave the rather special taste of wine casks for special and single cask bottlings because it just dont feel right, tastewise. it just dont feel like the farmy originial port charlotte i used to love. and thats no matter of achanging taste over time, its really that cursed wine casks. ;-) if you have no problem with wine cask whisky in general than consider it a fine dram at a reasonable price point (50€/0,7L/50% Alc). If you're more classy and like your common bourbon and sherry influenced islay whisky maybe order a sample first. nevertheless: its good stuff, the bottle didnt last for long, altough i dont see me buying another bottle.

At first, peat. Thick, smells of damp, an ounce of mold. A full ashtray. A fireplace in the morning, extinguished during the night. Disinfectant, glue, plastic. Tar. And despite this, a sweet freshness. Pear. Exotic fruits. At the bottom, lavender. Some spices. Cinnamon, ginger, benzoin. Brown sugar. Very good balance. In the mouth, licorice. Peat, spices. It's relatively dry. An ounce of caramel, coriander. Behind, a good dose of barley, cereal touches typical of Bruichladdich. Very good finish, quite long, herbaceous reflections, still licorice. A little bit of wood at the end, it disappears little by little. I understand the recent enthusiasm around this expression. A total success. If you give it some time in the glass, you will be rewarded with a great and interesting interplay of aromas from the fruity distillery character and the different casks. In my opinion, the barrel selection was wonderfully successful. As well as the intensity of the smoke and the alcohol strength. I'm familiar with the Islay Barley releases, but not this one yet. N : loads of lemon, with a touch of ashes and custard. Then, lightly, a touch of oak bitterness and cereals. Iodine too. With time, a nice maltiness takes over the lemon notes. Just like the Islay Barley releases, I love the nose. M : really smooth, silky texture with a little heat that's welcome. Peat is a bit more prominent than on the nose, still on ashes. The bitterness spoils the fun a bit for me. You still get the cereals and custard notes but way less lemon (or any fruit). F : Not overwhelming, leaves a lightly bitter and peppery note in mouth. Lemons and apricots are back for the finish, with burnt cereals. Very consistent. I expected more power from the 50% but it remains very even all way long. Surely one of the best standard bottle widely available. 7/10

Вкус	91	Quite oily and rounded that alcohol is well integrated. Upfront touch of salt, lots of malt and vanila sweetness, then burning grasss smoke become more intense. With some water is more salty and bring out more smoke.
Финиш	90	Long smoke and bit of nuttyand flower. Ending is a bit clean.

Нос	90	Ash and medicinal peat, green wood smoke, vanilla, caramel, pleasant heat like pepper in a frying pan. Honey, light citrus, malt. Well, that's it, alcohol, peat and sweetness, all strong, together and mixed. Green and bitter leaves such as arugula. It has some hidden red and purple berries, maybe black currants or blueberries. With water it reduces the burning and increases the sweetness, thankfully the smoke hasn't gone away. Candied pineapple, caramelized pudding, malt. Although it looks like it has sherry, it is much more a beautiful ex-Bourbon with a beautiful, simple and powerful peat.
Вкус	81	I expected more alcohol on the tongue, but it's bearable. Strong peat + sweetness: the peat is slightly medicinal and predominantly smoke and ash; the sweetness is honey, fresh fruit, closed red fruit, dark fruit with sugar, like a pudding with black plums and raisins. Lightly citrusy, malty and tannins from young barrel and bitter green leaves. With water, it starts off sweeter than peaty, but the two are together and intense. The honey with vanilla can be sickening, as it is very sugary. The strong peat unbalances the experience a little, but allows the identification of the two universes.
Финиш	86	Long, with an aftertaste of honey, ash and tannins. Astringent and bitter.

Нос	77	Heavely peated? Definitely not. Plus it's alcoholic. Little peat and citrus, no sherry, the ex-bourbon barrels dominate the nose. Some subtle nuances of sour green grape and pineapple with lime.
Вкус	80	reserved, as is the smell. A little sweet with a little peat, it has a delicate and gradual character, a mixture of peat and coal ash with citrus and sour green grape notes.

Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, 50%, SMSW. 30ml sample from TSE, Jan 2025. Light golden yellow. Aroma is light, initially has a soft smokiness that becomes more rusted and metallic. Quite airy and muted. Given loads of time there’s some apple coming through. Body is watery+. Taste is rounded, cohesive and easy – the sweet oak character and the fruits of the wine casks merge with the smoke nicely. Sweeter than expected. There’s a hint of bacon frazzles crisps in the aftertaste to start, but that becomes more like a rustiness over time. A soft lingering smoke. Decent heavily peated whisky. Doesn’t differentiate itself as much as Islay’s other heavily peated whiskies do, in my book, but it’s good. 3.5/84

N- Clam sea smokes letting the well integrated wood, feint, floral, fruity, winery and peaty characteristic to shows. Sweet candy and rubber nuances prevails with inky, pickled nutmeg and lime. Pencil shaving, fruit caramel and pungent bbq sauce . (90/22) P- Delicate salty and kippery mouthfeel. Warming vanilla, orange with mellow smokes. Balanced and full. Not as decorative as the aroma. (89/22) F- Medium-long, sharp citrus on the return with oak-y smokes, chewy and caramel sweetness. Hint of oily citrus peels for bitterness. The aroma is a dusty barn with grilled vegetables, smoked mackerel and bacon. The taste is mineral, with bitterness, full of smoked meats, dust, black pepper and fish with grilled meat. The finish is astringent, ashy, smoky-mineral. Excellent basic Port Charlotte, for my taste it cannot compete with Ardbag in this connotation, as it is very dry and simply derivative. RATING: 85pts - | 83 - 86 (B) → Good | - Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

I am very impressed with the work of the Bruichladdich team. A rock-solid dram that makes you want another sip or two. No wonder my second bottle is almost empty. For someone who likes smoky whiskies, no bar should be without this one.

Nose is peaty, salty, earthy and woody. Others have mentioned the aroma of pencil shavings and I definitely get that. On the palate, it’s much sweeter with vanilla notes, followed by intense peat, a little salt and a spicy finish. Great mouth texture also.

Man, good to get this one blind after several years I only heard good things about its improvement, giving me a chance to value it unbiased... and behold it is certainly among the best, if not the best Islay core range bottlings with depth, complexity and enough strength. I probably prefer it over several of the PC [letters] special releases which are sometimes too young and or do not always work with the finish as good. Highly recommended!

An absolute must-buy, in my opinion it belongs in every whisky bar! Its dark, roasty, and peaty notes immediately captivate me. The 50% ABV is present, but superbly integrated, supporting the rich aromas. A powerful, complex Islay malt with a fantastic mouthfeel.

Нос	86	Powerfully peaty with smoky and earthy nuances that play wonderfully with a fruity sweetness. Sweet apricots and sultanas meet fresh lemon notes. I can immediately smell preserved Sicilian lemons and vanilla. This is joined by earthy peat and a typical "cowshed" scent. As time goes on, it becomes more savory; I have fried bacon and onions, smoked paprika, sun-dried tomatoes, and black olives. In the background, I can still smell burnt fireworks.
Вкус	86	Creamy at first. The alcohol provides a strong, but not overpowering, kick. Lots of sweet smoke, salmiak, licorice, and a good peppery spice. The preserved lemons and vanilla are also present. I find the notes of dark, toasted rye bread and grilled apples and apricots particularly intriguing. The delicate sweet notes slowly blend with a distinct minerality. The sweet smoke and salty notes linger in the mouth and on the tongue. A truly wonderful experience on the palate!

The peat is clean but clean enough and we can not find the intensity of PC releases. The texture is sweet, in the mouth this Port Charlotte is immediately reminiscent of Laphroaig: a slightly sweet attack and masses of eugenol (cloves, medicinal plants). Long, earthy and peaty finish that ends with tangy notes. Good daily dram but I probably expected too much.

Nice full taste. Not only does it taste smoky and full of flavor, but it seems like it also has some slightly sweetness to it. Less: flavor doesn't last long; fades quickly. Beautiful: despite a higher alcohol percentage (50%), it still has a nice soft taste. Not all of them imitate that.

A lot of smoke and peat. Very smokey, like a bonfire. Smoke and peat almost overshadows the distillate and barrel influence. Also salt, vanilla, honey, menthol, oak, and tobacco notes, Needs water, as some fruity marmalade appear after adding some water. Long finish. Dry. I still find the smoke overshadows the rest of the taste a bit too much, so it does not get very complex. Maybe need ever longer time to mature, after opening the bottle.

Yes, it’s a good one. It’s not only the bottle that’s fancy, more importantly, the liquid inside is also worthy of a thumbs up. While the French oak was on the brink of being too much on the nose, the first sip got rid of all doubts – this is a very well-made, balanced, heavily peated, young Islay malt as it should be. Very mineral whisky with a rather flat taste but oily filling the mouth, similar to Ardbeg Ten. And like with the Ardbeg Ten, I can't find much sweetness here either - unlike most reviewers. If you want something bitter, smoky, mineral and lemony, then you are right. The fruit is clearly fresh and lemony, similar to Caol Ila, which however has more sweetness. The smoke aroma is pretty close to the ashtray, but I don't mind, I find it interesting. If you're looking for a sweet smoker, you're better off elsewhere. This is a bitter and a bit hot affair.

The powerful smoke did not overpower the “rustic”, slightly crafty style of the distillery, and this style can be easily traced in this release. One of the best ten year old OBs on the market. Right in the same conversation as Springbank and Ardbeg, but may just be even better. I did not find this to be a peat bomb like I expected it to be. Don’t go into it assuming that it’s the same level of peat as an Ardbeg or Laphroaig. Instead expect to be seduced by the myriad of flavours this has to offer to go along with the peating, which isn’t heavy handed here. There are some wine casks at work, but I feel that Bruichladdich does a better job than anybody at integrating those aspects with their strong distillate. Also, much more interesting than the Port Charlotte Scottish and Islay Barley bottlings that we were seeing four or five years ago. Verdict - great entry level Islay whisky Next progression - the Port Charlotte MRC01, a beguiling whisky and one of my favourite peated offerings in recent years.

A familiar regular release for many, which from the first inhale pleases with fresh smoke, tart herbs and hay, vanilla, sour apples and milk chocolate. Over time, bananas, small inclusions of pine, as well as sour milk notes and wax are added. A large sip has a lot of minerals, sea salt, green fruits, citrus, as well as tart herbs and black pepper. The combination of these notes pleasantly refers to throat lozenges. The finish is medium-length, salty and peppery, with herbal bitterness. All of the above, combined with a strength of 50%, makes it one of the most interesting regular releases aged 10-12 years.

On the nose there is plenty of sweetness with a gently hidden touch of peat. The palate opens with a hit of sweetness and vanilla, while the peat stays quietly in the background. The 50 percent ABV is practically unnoticeable. The finish is long and peaty.

This is a nice heavily Peated whisky with a twist and it is reasonably priced. I found it very palatable straight so there was no need for water. Maybe I should have tried a glass with water just to see the difference but it's too late, it's gone.

Нос	84	Heavily peated but it's not that heavy on the nose. This is more meaty, chorizo, spiced barbecue sausage, tinned meatball sauce and Hellman's Chop sauce, stuff like that. There is a faint smell of red fruits like strawberries. Burnt matches also fighting it's way through.
Вкус	86	Definitely heavy on the taste. More of those meaty flavours and white pepper. This is quite chewy and weighty. Again those fruit flavours are quite subtle, it's like a light coating around the peat and it definitely works, just holds it back from being a complete monster.
Финиш	85	A medium to long finish as you would expect. The spices go quickly leaving the dark fruits to close the show.

The smoke hits you stronger than any other whisky besides Laphroaig and especially Ardbeg in terms of intensity and also dryness but without the typical Islay peat. The smokiness is more like the Highland Park or Bowmore in terms of taste but is lacking the deepness of the proper casks. Here the maturation is in mixture of new and old casks. At least you don't need a lot of it at one go, so in terms of money for quantity is not too bad.

On the one hand (on the nose) a little impetuous, on the other hand (on the palate) a little hesitant and even flattering. I like the 10yo, but a bit too one-sided for me. Maybe 100% bourbon casks would have suited him even better? Rock-solid and also delicious, but like the Islay Barley bottlings, it doesn't quite pick me up. I find (even if Bruichladdich is my personal number 1) a Laphroaig, Ardbeg or even a Ledaig more expressive.

The first thing that comes to mind after sniffing is the PC atmosphere, then a little stable, some malt, citrus everything in the smoke a little alcohol hits us but it's 50% and the first dram today without any prior calibration Everything fits nicely on the tongue, we have fruit, we have smoke and we have quite a lot of ash, There are notes of wine, yellow and red fruit, the finish is leathery, salty, pleasant creaminess, chocolate and vanilla. For a basic dram, it's great and nice for something like that

This is the bottle (batch L164669 21/095) that made me fall in love with Bruu. This is the bottle that showed me a few years ago that whisky at 50% ABV can be light, subtle, sweet, bitter, fruity, smoky, maritime... and yet distinct and accessible. That smoke can be sweet and pleasant... There's probably no Islay whisky fan who hasn't tried this one.

It's funny how all the peat on the nose vanishes... where does it go? Very peculiar. I think the heavy new oak somewhat undercuts and dominates the peat leaving it scarcely present in the taste. However it's a good quality spirit, but perhaps surprisingly neutral in taste...... maybe too young and the oak too dominant. Not to say it's bad, but the Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10 are immeasurably superior and better bang for your buck. If this was a little cheaper and perhaps they just stuck it in a normal bottle, I'd be happier with it..... but it seems a question of style over content perhaps. EDIT... once this whisky had been opened a day or two the peat shines out and the new oak fades away. So I am changing my score from 75 to 85.

The nose greets me directly with a sugary sweetness (cotton candy, sugar syrup), which is accompanied by a light citrus fruitiness. Then it turns into a very herbal direction and now reminds me of a sweetened herbal tea. In the mouth, the herbal notes unfold and line the palate pleasantly, the alcohol content is hardly disturbing. In the finish, the herbaceousness again predominates, but for my taste a dry thyme-sage note dominates here, which I don't particularly like. Mineral smoke hangs over everything. Finally, a woody coffee note remains. Length: 6/10 Very herbal and therefore independent smoker. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they like it, it doesn't quite match my prey scheme, so the competing products are more accessible to me. Nevertheless, the quality cannot be denied. Rating: B+

Нос	88	This smoke is just great! Sweet and still musty, machine room and still fire in the cowshed. For me, the Islay smokers have the least maritime influence. Absolutely intense. Small minus point for me: nothing to notice of the wine barrels except the sweetness in the first nose. Alcohol note is easy to feel. A lime and some herbs appear behind the smoke. With water, the smoke goes back a little and a very slightly fleshy note appears. Grilled meat marinated with herbs.

this is more about the peat than it is about the smoke, which, apart from the ash, is hardly there at all. By no means is this an in your face whisky, although it does take you by surprise, as it slowly opens up and sets you to work to fully reveal everything it has to offer. It’s also really bloody brilliant! For a 10 year old, it’s not exactly cheap at around €60-€70, but it is worth every penny. And while this rather dashing and bold looking bottle of Port Charlotte 10 rightfully boasts ‘heavily peated’ on the label, it is in fact miles away from the smoky monster that is Laphroaig, or the little beast that is Ardbeg. This is refined, elegant, yet complex, strong yet sophisticated, even a bit enigmatic.

Нос	89	it starts of grainy and malty, with hints of ‘funk’ (musty) and mineral notes and wet straw. It has a hint of sourness to it, like an intense sour dough bread (again, the grainy element you tend to find in the unpeated Bruichladdich expressions as well). But let it sit for some 15 minutes and all that changes: much sweeter now, with (still some) barley sugar, a sweet, earthy peat, a hint of wine (not a sweet wine like a dessert Muscat or anything, mind you), some faint touches of tropical fruit (pineapple, maybe even kiwi) and again an earthy-mineral note, but more like clay now. That’s already quite something, but this party is just getting started.
Вкус	90	On the palate, the peat is much more prominent (and I do mean peat, not smoke per se). Here, the higher ABV shows itself, although it’s not, nor ever does it turn, overly aggressive. There’s a quite clear grainy/biscuit-y note, some (unripe) banana now as well. Again, the wine casks (25% of this comes from second fill French wine casks) show themselves, but never take over or mask any potential flaws, they’re just sitting quietly and well behaved in the back, almost with a polite cough asking for a bit of attention, in fact. Towards the finish it dries out with hints of white wood, ash and a salty/briny note. Very, very impressive!

Underrated Islay whisky from the most challenging Islay distillery. For 50 Euro it's the best available Islay Malt though some traditionalists will prefer Ardbeg because of the hype. Much better casks here. Dirty ,farmy nose with vanilla ,sea breeze and peat smoke. Oily, briny, taste with vanilla, tobacco and bonfire smoke without bitterness. Excellent whisky.

In the aroma there is smoke, and oil, and maybe petrol, the taste is slightly sweet, oily, such light citrus.

Everyone said that PC10 is comparable, if not better than the Islay's big three. After tasting, it is so much different than what I imagined. In a blind tasting, I would have guessed that this whisky comes from Highland or Speyside. In my opinion, it tastes like a peated version of Arran 10 or Glenfarclas 12 (Despite no sherry note in PC10, I really think that they are similar.) I do not score this 90+ because it has nothing special, but it is flawless as well. 100% will buy another Bruichladdich product. Last but not least, I recommend you to taste this dram slowly (~30 minutes, plus adding little water after the first taste) to get the full experience.

Нос	88	Initially, it is not that smoky. Instead, there are fresh fruits, citrus, vanilla, honey, pepper, ginger. Basically, It is fruity, earthy, floral, and well-balanced. After sitting for 2 minutes, it has some seaweed and marine notes, but the fruitiness is still there. After 5-10 minutes, the smokiness is much stronger, where it smells like an Islay now. In general, it is balanced but the complexity has shown when the dram sits in the air. It is too good for a 10 year old whisky.
Вкус	85	Sweet, oily, slightly salty. There are bread, dark fruit, oak, vanilla notes. It is not spicy and is easy to drink, even for beginners. It is balanced but not too complex.
Финиш	87	Oaky. Surprisingly, there are no marine/sea or any bonfire feeling at the finish. However, it is not bitter and no alcohol burn, which is very comfortable.

Advanced level, yet approachable, heavily peated Islay single malt. If provided at cask strength with an advice of consuming at 50% ABV, it would have been the best whisky (I had tasted) so far. Matured 65% in 1-st fill ex-bourbon American oak casks, 10% in 2-nd fill ex-bourbon American oak casks, and 25% in 2-nd ex-wine French oak casks. Non-chill filtered. Not coloured. Thick slowly forming primary legs. Thick slow secondary legs. Droplets. Holds water very well.

A very nice 10-year-old expression from Port Charlotte. Some of its parts are classical Islay character of the likes you can find with Ardbeg and Lagavulin, but there is also a very dominant woodiness from the French Oak involved; and I'm not 100% sure that these casks actually compliment the excellent spirit. This whisky is neither a sherry monster nor a classic bourbon driven peat bomb, and thus on some evenings I find it a little bit disconcerting whereas on other occasions it's a perfect session finale. Anyways, it definitely is a BFYB malt and even with those reservations an Islay must-have.

Нос	85	Yes, of course it's peaty and smoky, but behind that there is a very, very sweet aroma of zabaglione with lemon sherbet, liquorice and peppermint candy. Some pineapples and cream with star anise and cinnamon are in the background. In spite of being peaty thanks to the bourbon and wine cask mix this smells almost like a dessert whisky. It sure isn't un-nice, but did we expect and want this from a supposedly heavy-hitting PC? Well, the jury's still out... You may add a drop of water, but it doesn't change (or add/improve) much about the general profile of the malt.
Вкус	87	Imo the palate is better defined than the nose. You may list the PC 10 somewhere between a Bowmore and an Ardbeg, of course the better expressions of them out there. There still is that sweetness from the nose (slightly perfumed too), and of course there also is wood spice (perhaps more than expected from a 10yo), but this evident winy-ness is a little bit more restrained in favour of the character of the distillate. The citrus notes (limoncello) are almost as prominent as the peat, but now there also is that earthy, rooty freshness that wasn't really there on the nose, like gentian and very good absinth. Added to that of course you have those classy Islay flavours like tar, smoked bacon, kelp and sea spray. All in all this is very enjoyable, neat as well as with water.
Финиш	86	Long, peaty and sweet. It's fine, really, but still on some days the sweetness from the casks tends to be a bit too much for me (acid reflux included...). You should buy this, but please try it first - and try the less wine-driven PC Islay Barley alongside if possible and decide what PC "style" you prefer. It's all a matter of taste.

Dear PC10, When I saw the result of your extreme makeover, I was heartbroken. Dirty is the word that came to my mind when your post office water fountain tank shape appeared to me. Black, opaque, forcing me to approach the neon lights of my kitchen to check how empty you were ... or full, it depends. The habit does not make the monk however. The first sips had disappointed me and I had taken the risk of tasting you blind in front of the Lagavulin 8 whose characteristic smoke carried the bet without harm. After a few months, my opinion changed, the liquid became tasty and I mostly learned to revel in your oily consistency that lines the walls of the throat. Excellent value for money whisky. Surely the best 10 year peat on the market with the Ledaig 10 IMHO Ps: you are not so hideous after all. On the contrary, you stand out from the others and I love your cap ...

Нос	84	Ofcourse peat and smoke to start with. This complements great with black pepper and a note of sea-air. A note of vanilla. Fruity notes like lemon zest and pineapples. At the end notes if soil and oregano.
Вкус	86	Peat and smoke, again with the black pepper. Sweet layers of vanilla and honey. A medicinal note of plasters, followed by a rubbery note. At the end some more earthy notes like leafs, mint and some oak.
Финиш	86	Quite long! It stays nicely sweet in the mouth with layers of vanilla, caramel and mint. On the background some smoke.

Нос	87	Smoky, what else? In this case it's a kind of smoked bacon combined with leather, grain field and the typical distillery character of Bruichladdich I often describe as cheese foot.
Вкус	88	Immediate smokey start. Neither too soft nor too rough like some other strong smoky whiskies. It won't show more than the smoke but if you go deep inside you can find the grain flavour again.
Финиш	89	The finish is long, warming and again smoky with cheese foot. At the end some spices come up the throat. It's definitely one of its best sides.

A good whisky that is not exactly my cup of tea. For 70 euros in my overpriced location, @50% and with a nice presentation, nothing to complaint about, but you have to like it. Some would mention character, others would mention flaws, I am somewhere in the middle... A bit of water is recommended (especially for the nose), but I also like this one with a single, dense, ice cube, which for me is usually true for overly smoky and phenolic whiskies at a higher strength (especially living in a hot summer country). Edit: after one fourth of the bottle has been consumed, and after a few weeks aside, this is getting much better. +2 points overall now. Edit 2: now at the end of the bottle and this keeps growing on me. To me the best standard, age statement, young peaty Islay single malt. Expensive, but deservingly so. +1 point.

Topper. So tasty and yet so soft and round. never biting, almost as much smoke as an ardbeg, but much less aggressive. Almost no fruit, some citrus in scent. Delicious.

Port Charlotte 10 *Age statement: 10 years old, including a vintage. *Alcohol percentage at least 46%: yes, 50%. *Amount of filtration: stated on the front of the bottle as un-chillfiltered. *Use of caramel coloring {E150a}: stated on the front of the bottle as coloring free. (4 out of 4, regarding craft/integrity presentation and communication). Without water Nose/olfaction: green grapes, pears, smoked paprika, lime. It smells green and sweet, with some gentle smoke mixed in. Palate/gustation: white wine, licorice, green apples, gooseberries, feints of smoke. Again very green and more of the wine casks come through, and there is also a very elegant smoke weaved throughout it. Finish/coda: wine gums, weed, spearmint, ash. A lovely finish, very clean and continuous. With some water Nose/olfaction: no real differences, but slightly more muted. Palate/gustation: more peat comes forward, but the sweetness subsides. Finish/coda: it loses a lot on the finish: all the oomph is gone. I understand why this is one of the most beloved expressions that come from Islay. It is complex, but approachable; smoky yet delicate; there is wine presence but it is not domineering, and all in all it just feels really well put together.

A good, straightforward Port Charlotte. Since you do not go wrong, if you like the PC smoke. Of course, that's not something that gets you off your seat. But I still like that in the glass. At the price you can not complain there.

A disappointment for me. A very smooth yet not that exciting dram. Ardbeg Ten for me remains a golden standard in this category. Even though it is 4% weaker. Bruichladdich went full hipster and you pay premium for their designed bottles. It is still a good Islay scotch. But its price (and price of other Bruichladdich bottles) is way too high for what they offer. It might be that non-Islay peat. Or the wine casks... But this one really does not justify its high price. If you want your peat to be more pleasant, go for Kilkerran 12. With its citrus notes it is the more interesting one. P. S. This is now basically for the same price as Ardbeg 10. So it is a buy now.

Was a blind sample and had already guessed the aroma correctly, and only the taste. I don't like Port Charlotte. It all smells and tastes like puke puke. Although the 10 is still one of the better ones.

Rather reserved on the nose, but the similarities with the older ones before are there. Younger, of course a little ashier, especially greener. Smoldering campfire with wet branches. The same applies to the nose, mouth, and finish. Now I would need to know how I like the other young Islay standards at the moment, but I suspect that the Port Charlotte is at the top. I only know these fatty, greasy notes from young Islays of older vintages and ancient blends with a good amount of smoke. I could be persuaded to try the distillery only, but the rest is OK in terms of price-performance ratio. It can also handle water. Checked back after a few years: surprisingly little, but heavy, fatty smoke, green, the wine barrel component comes through but is not penetrant.

A solid, peaty and smoky Islay, but a touch too medicinal (iodine, camphor) for my taste. The underlying Bruichladdich comes through nicely. Side-by-side I preferred the Ardbeg Corryvreckan.
